Hey Peeps! You know it, the struggle is real to find the perfect shoe which uplifts your style quotient. I am an ardent shoe lover and love collecting them. With this post, my aim is to take you through 10 must have shoes for every woman & a minimalist shoe wardrobe. I would also try to answer commonly asked questions and share style tips for each pair.
How many pairs of shoes should a woman own?
I own more than 100 pairs of shoes and barely use 20 of them on a regular basis. For sure, I would have worn each of them at least 4-5 times in my lifetime. Being a fashion blogger with a soft corner for shoes, I tend to pick up most shoes which catch my fancy.
Even after having so many pairs of shoes I feel that I don’t have a matching shoe with a particular outfit I need to showcase. I am sure most of us feel the same. But at the same time, everyone’s priority and budget are different.
So let’s start with the basics. I will quickly guide you through minimalist must-have shoes and then extend the collection to 10 to cover more occasions and styles.
Minimalist Shoe Wardrobe
Every girl dreams of a dedicated shoe closet but trust me, it’s worthless. There is no point we have excess stuff at home when we can look stylish with just 5 pairs. Yes, you read it right, all you need is 5 pairs of shoes. These are the basic must-have shoes which I always have around and tend to replace with something similar once worn out.
1. White Sneakers
I love walking and would hate any shoe bites/ discomfort during travel or even shopping excursions. Having loved comfy fashion forever, I got myself this white pair of sneakers back in 2016. For me, white sneakers are a must-have shoe in your closet. I carry them on all my trips, be it a weekend ride or an international vacation.
White sneakers are one the basics every woman should own. They can be paired with any kind of outfit, especially, when it comes to everyday look. If you go to my everyday look category posts, you will spot me wearing those white sneakers in most of them.
Tip: White sneakers are neutrals. You can pair them with jeans, skirts, dress and any usual outfit. You can also pair them with sequinned outfits for parties.
2. Pumps in black or nude
Black pumps are again must have shoes especially, if you are a working woman. When it comes to formal wear we always tend to wear black pumps first. Black pumps go stylishly with many outfits from office wear to casuals. For that matter, it goes with any sophisticated wear too. Cocktail dresses are empty without a black pair of pumps. Few people don’t like to wear black shoes always. So, a nude shade is the best alternative to it.
Tip: If you own a right classy pair of pumps your shoe, you can get both glam and class.
3. Ethnic Sandals
Being Indian, we just cannot avoid ethnic sandals. I wear ethnic wear once in a blue moon but I need at least one pair of ethnic shoes which goes with every ethnic wear outfit. Now that’s up to you, buy heels according to your comfort. I prefer to wear heels with my ethnic outfits. With long skirt and sarees, heels become must have shoes.
Tip: Buy a silver/gold/multicolour ethnic sandal as they go with lots of ethnic wears.
4. Casual Sandals/Belles
I always keep one pair of sandals/ belles on the top of my shoe rack as I use it for quick on the go looks. Just because I am a fashion blogger it doesn’t mean I don’t step out in casual wear. I am exactly like you, I walk in pyjama, t-shirts and casual sandals too. In fact, I use my casual sandals for my beach trips. Casual sandals are best for street style looks. I have seen many people using sports shoes on daily basis for comfortable walks. Nowadays casual shoes are very much comfortable and can be worn for 1-2 Kms walking purpose.
Tip: Casual shoes go with everything and can be used in any season except winters.
5. Heeled Sandals
Heels are my best friend. But I have maintained a long-distance relationship with them. I love them so much but I don’t use them every day. Heels give me a different level of confidence. They work wonders for our posture and makes our legs look great. There is nothing more feminine and chic than a pair of high heels sandals. This is why I feel they are must-have shoes in our shoe closet.
Tip: Check yourself, are you a real pro when it comes to walking in high heels? If you are not you need to practice it. Avoid wearing heels on an everyday basis if you can’t carry it. Start wearing it for cocktail parties where you need to walk less.
Extension of must have shoes
6. Leather Boots
Leather boots are the most fashionable shoes for me. I have always fantasised about boots. Boots are something I can’t resist. I love all kind of boots, be it classic riding boots, Chelsia boots, cowboy boots, ankle length boots or knee length boots. I wish I would be able to own them all one fine day. But if I had to choose only one and say it’s a must-have shoe that would be ankle length leather boots.
Tip: Please be aware that before you move to an extended version, you should have a basic one first. My first pair of boots was an ankle length black boots.
7. Red heels
If you already own black heels and want to add more spice to your look just go for red stilettos. I have recently uploaded my red heels pictures on Instagram and a blog where I have created Catwoman look. I received so many compliments for that and query regarding the store from where I have purchased it.
My red heels are by Zara India and I am in love with them. After having so many black heels in metallic, matte, glossy, strappy etc. I really wanted more bold and sexy pair of shoes. Red sandals are any day must have shoes for a woman who loves to show her boldface to the world.
Tip: Style them with any of your outfits to elevate the complete look. Match red heels with neutral outfits.
8. Black Sneakers
After white, I opted for black sneakers in my must-have shoe collection. When I was working in an MNC shoes where really close to my heart. I always feel ones personality can be easily judged by their shoes. Friday dressing was something I used to wait for.
Any fashion lover can easily relate to what I mean. I used to feel cold in air-conditioned office during the night shift and to keep myself warm I used to always wear shoes to my office. Black sneakers used to be my favourite for Friday dressing. As you know black is neutral and goes with any colour outfit.
Tip: If you own a plain white sneaker and black is your second pair of shoes go for a white band shoes like mine. I can pair anything with these pair of shoes. It gives my outfits an athleisure look.
9. Peach Sneakers
I really don’t have to say how much I love sneakers. All because they are both stylish and comfortable. So, when I decided to move a step forward from the usual black or white sneakers, peach was the first colour in my mind.
Peach is the new neutral in the world of sneakers which goes with your maximum outfits. Peach is such a soothing colour that I could not resist buying one. I have also paired it with a floral cold shoulder dress before on my blog.
Tip: Unlike white, you don’t have to bother about cleaning your peach shoes every time.
10. Bling Shoes
Being a casual and comfy lover it took some time for me to create a soft corner for blingy shoes. I won’t lie or hide the fact how I started loving it. I love dancing at parties but can’t in heels. It hurts my toes. I was looking for something really comfortable which could be at home in an EDM party as well.
After a long wait, I found the right pair of shoes which I can use whenever I want to bring out the dancing queen inside me. I sometimes wear it to resorts as well. If you remember my initial posts in casual wear, I have paired my bling shoes quite a few times.
Tip: Opt for gold/silver shoes. Pair them with your denim and let everyone know you know few things about styling. Don’t overdo the bling-thing, keep your attire neutral.
I hope it was a nice read and inspiring for your closet essentials. Do let me know your thoughts in the comment section below about your must have shoes.
