Who hasn’t heard of or rather been to, The Wonderla Theme Park, off Mysore road in Bangalore? However, have you experienced the welcoming Wonderla Resort to date? It became operational in 2012 and has been around for the last six years. The sprawling property affords a unique blend of exhilarating and laid back experience for couples, families or groups just a short ride off the city.
An Overdue Vacation
We have a micro nuclear family in Bangalore with just the husband and I. Being in different fields, It gets pretty difficult to coordinate our vacations. I had recently been to an Ooty vacation but with my blogger friends whereas Sid keeps travelling on and off for work. Frankly, the last vacation we had taken together was way back in January 2018!
It was on our minds that we got to take at least a day off, away from the city traffic and noise, together. When I got to know of the Wonderla Resort, we didn’t over think it and grabbed the opportunity.
The Arrival at Wonderla Resort
The Resort is located at a distance of almost 16 km from the Mysore Road & Nice Road Junction. You could easily spot the theme park from the main road by probably the tallest Ferris Wheel in India. We arrived there by 10:30 am, got checked in within five minutes and were ushered into our rooms on the 6th floor.
Boy, was it a room with a view! The windows opened straight out to the same Ferris Wheel and the lush green environs around Mysore Road. I must admit, the room was neatly laid out and spacious with the standard fare such as an electric kettle, electronic locker, towels and bath accessories you would expect from a 4 Star Resort.
Well, we were in Wonderla and not in any particular mood to sit back and relax in mid-morning and opted to take a tour of the resort instead. In the ground floor, just behind the reception area, a pretty large pool invites you. The pool is temperature controlled at 26 C and has a cordoned off, shallow kids pool as well.
Overlooking the pool is a small patio for your beverage breaks. Adjoining that is a swanky pub which was pretty empty as we had chosen a weekday for our visit. The expansive restaurant shares the same floor and was tastefully decorated in a neo-traditional style.
The first floor houses the gym, the game room, and conference rooms. The gym was spick and span and Sid couldn’t resist trying out a few of the machines over there. The Game Room houses an air hockey unit, a pool table, a foosball table, and a few other knick-knacks. In addition to these, there is a play section for young kids on the same floor as well.

It was a blazing sunny day and we took a short dip in the pool to whip up an appetite. Post that, we dropped into the restaurant at around 1:30 pm. You could either order a la carte or from a set menu (a part of the package).
In the package, you get to choose from a couple of soups, starters, main course gravies, rice dishes, Indian breads along with desserts. If you are not finicky, you’ll be ok with the options both in veg and non-veg dishes. To top it, the main course tasted pretty decent with Sid having ordered Chicken Biryani and me sticking to my all time favourite mutton.
The Wonderla Theme Park
We did venture out to the actual theme park, though for just over a couple of hours. As I have mentioned earlier, It was a pretty bright day and we stuck to the water rides. Well, who doesn’t love their water rides! Sadly, we don’t have snaps as we had to place our phones and cameras in the electronic locker (A well thought out feature). Signing off, we were pretty disappointed as the rain dance had been cancelled for the day!
We came back to the resort when the pool area was shaded and just couldn’t resist jumping in once again. While taking a leisurely dip we were served tea by the poolside with pakodas. It wasn’t martini by the poolside, but we did relish our chai pakodas with the setting Sun.
Coming back to the room, the view from the window was still breathtaking with the glittering lights of the Ferris Wheel at a distance. Since both of us had to work the next day, we checked out at around 7:30 pm and were back home by a bit over 9 pm.
To sum it up, it was a short but sweet and memorable vacation or as they say, a Staycation; You get your fair share of revelry and relaxation and are back on your feet quickly for the daily grind.
Untill the next time! Stay fabulous!
